Founder’s Note
Hey Friend 👋🏽
After being laid off from Microsoft late last year, I went through what so many others who have who had this experience did: disillusionment, shame, resentment…and much more. Valuable life lessons gently brought me back to the priority of living in the present…and those feelings were replaced by curiosity, compassion, and of course, coffee.
I started the League of Laid Off Legends to explore a set of questions along with a fast-growing community of extremely talented laid off tech workers. Questions like, What’s next? What do I really want to do? What am I really great at? How do I help others?
Two things emerged from my process –
One: We’re at the border of an incredible time in history – where the technology and practices we’ve all spent time building are shaping the world we live in. The layoffs will continue, and we can’t wallow in shame, isolation, or fear. Life is too short for that. 💯
Two: You matter. You’ve come this far, have a phenomenal set of skills and experiences, and belong at the table. A management opinion and decision doesn’t define who you are or place limits on what you’re capable of. Remember - you’ve done some incredible things. It’s time to break out your highlight reel and get ready for the next big thing. 🔥
Meditation practice teaches about the space between inhale and exhale, and how focusing there unlocks the magic, breath by breath. Before landing your next gig, hopefully you can find the space to rest, reset, re-envision, and re-launch the next chapter of your journey with the right level of intensity. That space is what the League of Laid Off Legends is about.
